Troubleshooting Post-Update Issues

Last updated on Jul 7, 2026

After updating to a major version of the User Registration & Membership plugin, some users may see problems. This is normal because major updates bring new features, improvements, and changes.

This guide will help you find and fix common problems after updating:

Free version: 5.0

Pro version: 6.0

⚠️ Before You Start – Important Notes

Before you start, check these:

WordPress version is 6.4 or higher

PHP version is 7.4 or higher

All caches are cleared (browser, plugin, server)

You have a full site backup

💡 Tip: If possible, test major updates on a staging site first.

Registration Form Not Working After Update

Symptoms:

Form does not submit

Page reloads with no message

Registration button does nothing

Steps to fix:

Go to User Registration & Membership → All Forms

Open the form that is not working

Click Update even if you made no changes

Test the form again

If the problem is still there:

Switch to a default WordPress theme

Disable other plugins one by one to find a conflict

💡 Tip: Re-saving the form updates it for the new version.

Login Issues After Updating

Symptoms:

Users see “Invalid username or password”

Login form does not work

Redirect loop after login

Steps to fix:

Clear all caches (browser, plugin, server)

Turn off security, cache, or optimization plugins temporarily

Test login using a normal user account

Check the login page in User Registration & Membership → Settings → GeneralPages

💡 Tip: Most login problems after updates are caused by caching or security plugins.

Admin Pages Not Loading or Showing Errors

Symptoms:

Blank admin pages

“Critical error” message

Settings page does not open

Steps to fix:

Check the error log

Go to this guide to learn how: How to View Error Logs for User Registration & Membership

Look for errors related to User Registration & Membership or User Registration & Membership Pro

If the site is inaccessible

Use FTP or cPanel

Rename the plugin folder temporarily to disable the plugin

💡 Tip: Checking the error log helps you see exactly what is causing the problem, making it easier to fix or report to support.

Pro Features Not Working After Update

Symptoms:

Pro features missing

Paid options not visible

Upgrade messages appear even though Pro is installed

Steps to fix:

Make sure User Registration & Membership Pro v6.0 is installed and activated

Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins

Deactivate and then reactivate User Registration & Membership Pro

Refresh the page and check the features

💡 Tip: Sometimes after a major update, resource files (CSS, JS) do not load properly because old files are cached. Deactivating and reactivating the plugin helps load the new resource files correctly.

Styling or Layout Problems

Symptoms:

Form layout broken

Fields not aligned

Buttons not styled

Steps to fix:

Clear all caches

Turn off CSS/JS optimization plugins temporarily

Switch to a default theme and test

Turn your theme and plugins back on one by one

If Customize My Account (Pro Add-on) styles are not applying:

Go to User Registration & Membership → Settings → My Account

Open Customize My Account

Click Load Style Customizer

Click Save without making any changes

💡 Tip: Sometimes, after a major update, HTML or CSS changes and cached old resources can prevent styles from loading correctly. Re-saving the Customizer settings helps load the new style files properly.

Email Notifications Not Working

Symptoms:

Users do not get registration emails

Admin notifications missing

Steps to fix:

Go to User Registration & Membership → Settings → Email

Open each email template and click Save

Test the registration again

If emails still fail, use an SMTP plugin and set it up correctly

💡 Tip: Email problems are often caused by server settings, not the plugin.

Checking for Plugin or Theme Conflicts

If the above steps do not work, there may be a conflict with your theme or another plugin.

Steps Summary:

Use Health Check & Troubleshooting mode for admin issues

For front-end or login issues, manually disable other plugins one by one
